black
it’s like the universe is bottled in a glass jar
and i eat my way down to its bottom at my usual 3 am’s
licking my fingertips as i turn the next page of my book
i pick another jar to scrape of a little sunshine from the side
and throw it across my room to brighten it up
my dwindling thoughts fall apart inside my mind
i stare at the pages
black font
black
black
i feel my heart crack a little
i place my hands on my chest to breathe deep
i look at the tiny planets
so beautifully crafted
such pulchritude
so...dead
eroding slowly throughout the millennia
i smile
how glorious they were once to play with
tossing them around in circles
all alone in my room
how’d they dance
and now all their cogs and gears are rusting
i was fond of my room once
i’d get drunk on the imperfect collisions
stars chasing after false horizons
but now i eat away my jar of universe
at 3 am each night
as i drown myself in black font
black
just black

finally, a poem that understands insomnia is just the soul's way of saying it's not quite done tormenting you. I can only hope the universe is low calorie, because that much existential consumption at 3 a.m. will inevitably go straight to the ache. but nonetheless how deliciously macabre.
“my dwindling thoughts fall apart inside my mind”
How beautifully beautifully I can relate to this part. Because this is exactly what happens to me, when it’s 3 am, no sleep, and all my thoughts falling apart.
thank you for such wonder🫶🏼
